Florence Nightingale (1820-1910)

"For what is Mysticism? Is it not the attempt to draw near to God, not by rites or ceremonies, but by inward disposition? Is it not merely a hard word for 'The Kingdom of Heaven is within'? Heaven is neither a place nor a time." [Florence Nightingale, 1873]

Stephen Hawking

“I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image.”

Ricky Swallow

Ricky Swallow’s iMan Prototype 2001 series of sculptures parodies the current i-phenomena of the 21st century. In the creation of the iMan Prototype, Swallow uses injected-moulded resins with colour tints, a similar material one would suggest to the development of contemporary technology goods such as the Apple iMac computer.

Patricia Piccinini

Patricia Piccinini’s art making practice incorporates a range of material and techniques. Her works are based on technologies intervention on humanity. In her artwork The Young Family 2002 she incorporates the use of various materials such as silicone, polyurethane, leather and human hair. Her methods of creation greatly involve the digital world, creating creatures and humans far beyond reality before attempting physical making.
